Zauchensee offers doorstep skiing to over 860kms of well maintained pistes.
Tucked away at the end of the valley this resort is a gateway to the renowned ski area that boasts many ski champions; from Zauchensee , Austrian Olympic Silver Medallist, Michael Walchhofer; with Herman Mayer and Anna Maria Moser-Proll coming from nearby resorts of Flauchawinkl and Wagrain.
Zauchensee at 1350m rising to 2188m is the jewel in the crown for the Ski Amadé system hosting many ski events, the most notable being the FIS Lady’s Downhill. It is a satellite area to the main town of Altenmarkt and is just an hour away from Salzburg, with hotels offering ski-in ski-out locations along with Austrian hospitality and excellent cuisine.
The Ski Amadé system offers a wide variety of pistes within its resorts; Zauchensee has the wide open slopes that dip in and out of the tree line, and the world cup ladies downhill course to try your skills on; Flauchauwinkl has long runs that join the Flauchau system where you can test your speed or a slalom run on a timed course, then move on to Kleinarl. Just a short drive away is the Dachstein glacier with its breath taking vista, as is the nearby resort of Schladming. With access into such a vast area there is no shortage of skiing and good reason why many national ski teams use this area to hone their skills, all this with the added plus of skiing into late April.
Although Zauchensee comprises mainly of hotels, there are restaurants and bars and shops dedicated to ski equipment and essential items. If you would like a shopping trip, then Altenmarkt can be accessed during the day by the free bus service. On some evenings the hotels arrange night time activities such as night snow shoe walking.
Ski Hillwood highly recommends this resort and has centred its programme here as it offers an ideal environment for all skiers.
